Adam Levine compares interior design to music

It's been quite the year for Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, who got engaged to his girlfriend, a Victoria's Secret model, in the spring and was also recently named People Magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive." In between photo-shoots, recording session and judging on the hit reality show, The Voice, Levine took time to talk about his Hollywood Hills home to Architectural Digest. In fact, Levine even compares the process of interior decorating to making music, as both activities require you to showcase a personality that is uniquely yours.

For more design advice from the successful rock star, take a look at some of the helpful tips below:

  • Color:  "Mark brought soul and color into the place," Levine notes in the Magazine. Levine's interior designer Mark Haddawy adds, "For me, it's about the mix, not just in the materials we used, but in the art we bought for the house." Hanging on Levine's walls are original paintings from artists including Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
  • Expansion: Levine purchased his Hollywood home with four bedrooms, but knocked down the walls to create more living space. This is just one of the steps he and Haddawy took to ensure that his home was tailored to his wants and needs.
  • Window coverings: People's Sexiest Man Alive needs his beauty sleep, which is why Levine installed dark velvet curtains inside of his bedroom to help keep the sunlight out. Overall, the curtains coincide with the home's vintage rock-and-roll vibe.
