Color of the Year 2020: Tradition Meets Modern

The Pantone Color of the Year 2020 has been announced–and it has us swooning over blue! Classic Blue was announced as the winner in early December. Chosen to lead us into a new decade, this shade of blue is full of classic charm, yet capable of modern design. Did you know blue could be so versatile? Take a look…

Traditional Cabinets in Shades of Blue

One place we’re loving this energetic blue is the kitchen. Just the right amount of color, without going overboard, painted blue cabinets allow tradition to combine with contemporary style. One way to amp up the design? Bring in metallic elements, such as hardware, pendants and accented decor. The color of the year 2020 makes a gorgeous backdrop.

Old World Charm in Trending Statements

One of the biggest trends in home design is creating unique focal walls. Many bring dimension and visual interest, with some walls contrasting the concept of modern with rustic, or antique, charm. This wall map is a perfect example! While this home office boasts sleek, modern style in the white cabinetry and furniture, the world map adds color and a nostalgic vibe.

Defining Design Elements

Blue in the bedroom has always been a favorite–traditional, safe and soothing. And, while shades of blue still provide soothing comfort, there’s an edgy, contemporary feel with Classic Blue. This blue upholstered headboard, against a wall of grasscloth, adds sophisticated styling. But, it’s not stuffy. Patterned drapery at the window create a relaxed feel, just enough for casual appeal, meant to counteract the upscale elements of the room.

Inspiring a Range of Blues

What we often see in design, is not necessarily the exact color of the year, but what it inspires. While blue is already a popular color, it’s the range of blues that will spawn from this announcement. From teal to navy, we can’t wait to see what everyone is going to do with blue in the coming year. These roman shades were designed with fabrics from the Jewelstone collection, in Kyanite–a blue that invigorates, threaded with gold.
