Decorating your first home: Where to start

Dan Home Decor

Moving into your first home is a huge accomplishment, but it can be overwhelming. If you’ve just taken this major step in life, you probably have dozens of questions swimming through your mind: What kind of furniture should I buy? How should I set up the living room? What color should I paint the walls?

Milwaukee area residents often turn to Bazaar Home Decorating for their interior design needs. We offer all kinds of home organization solutions, as well as custom window coverings and bedding. If you’re looking for some help beautifying your new space, our friendly staff would love to help you out.

In the meantime, you may want to consider these tips for decorating your first home:

Be patient – There’s no rush. It’s understandable that you’re eager to make your space look perfect, but you don’t want to make any expensive decisions that you may regret. Renovations, for example, can wait. So can that $3,000 loveseat you saw on Pinterest.

Buy secondhand furniture – You’re probably living on a pretty tight budget, but the good news is that you don’t have to break the bank even further in order to fill up your new house. You can find unique pieces on Craigslist, eBay and even the local thrift shop. Often these items have a great deal of charm that can inspire ideas for the rest of the room.

Set up your bedroom first – While it may be tempting to get the common areas unpacked and decorated so you can entertain guests, the bedroom is where you’ll end up spending a lot of your time, and with that in mind, you’ll want to ensure it’s a comfortable space as soon as possible.
