There are a few techniques that can help your small space feel bigger.
August 8 2013

Do you have these essentials to live well in your small space?

Dan Home Decor

Many people choose to live in a small space rather than a large one, since paying for less room typically means having access to a nicer neighborhood, cozier atmosphere and a number of other benefits. However, there's no denying the fact that working with fewer square feet means that you must be creative in terms of the furniture items you use and the way you arrange them throughout the space. While others can dedicate entire rooms to a single function, some parts of your home will just have to do double duty.

Of course, if you employ the right pieces and techniques, it's easier to make your small space feel larger and more organized. Here at Bazaar Home Decorating, we have compiled three essential pieces of advice for living large in a small space.

1. Try a translucent coffee table – Whether you pick glass or acrylic, these see-through pieces of furniture give you a convenient low surface for your living room, but help to make the room seem more open. It's a great technique if your living room is smaller than you'd like it to be.

2. Pick a functional bed – If you're working with a tiny bedroom, you might be tempted to save space by putting your mattress and box spring on the floor. In actuality, this is a very inefficient use of space. Instead, a bed frame will enable you to have room for storage underneath and help to make your bedroom feel like more of a peaceful retreat.

3. Use full-sized window treatments – In almost all cases, drapes should be hung "high and wide" around windows. This means that they should be hung above and outside of the glass so as to make your windows seem bigger and let as much light in as possible. With your window treatments installed like this and hanging all the way to the floor, you'll be surprised at how much bigger your home feels.
