Fashion week trends applied to the home

Even though it's been chilly in New York City, the streets are filled with glitz and glamour in honor of Fall 2014 fashion week. As you know, the top trends seen on the runway often help shape the interior design realm and vice versa.

"Whenever there is a key fashion week anywhere in the world, design interest usually spikes for both fashion and home. These two worlds have been joined at the hip for a few centuries," states a press release from WebWire.com. "Historically fashion pushed interior design trend movement, but with the lightning speed of information today, insiders now see interior design shows influencing fashion as well."

Take a look at some of the top trends and learn how to apply them to your home:

  • Animal print: Welcome to the jungle has been the motto of many top designers. Jason Wu and BCBG Max Azria are just some of the lines showcasing the trend. Donna Hoffman, founder of The Interior Design Advocate, believes this style will continue throughout the year with homeowners favoring both real or faux furs in the form of accent pillows and throw rugs.
  • Berry-tones: Rich tones, such as berry and crimson are expected to make a splash in the home design sector. This hue is right on trend with Radiant Orchid — Pantone's Color of the Year. To stay relevant, look for berry-tone custom curtains and drapes
