Give your home décor a makeover in 2014

When the sparkly ball drops this year, it means it's time to kiss bland home décor goodbye. Be an interior design trend setter this year by adhering to these popular styles predicted to make a splash in 2014:

  • Mod: "I'm seeing an influx of black-and-white accessories, especially mirrors and vases/containers," Stephanie Gamble, owner of The House Downtown, tells the Baltimore Sun. "For a softer effect try an all-white palette for furniture and walls, only adding black as throw pillows, as trim on long white draperies, combined with a pair of black lamps on either side of a sofa or bed." You can even achieve this trendy, but classic look through black or white custom curtains and drapes
  • Purple: As we already told you, Radiant Orchid has been awarded the top color honor in the new year by color authority Pantone. Follow the trend with purple home décor. Try purple window fashions, or even make a statement with a purple furniture items. If you want to bring this hue to your home in a subtle way, pale purple paint is a popular neutral hue. Now try saying that three times fast!
  • Wallpaper: Retro wallpaper is back and bigger than ever. Homeowners are adding this appliqué to only one or two walls in order to bring contrast to their living rooms, bathrooms and kitchens. Look for wallpaper with interesting, but subtle designs. Unlike your grandmother's wallpaper, a modern spin on the trend favors innovative geometric shapes.
