Home improvement activity expected to increase in 2013, says study

Purchasing a house is only the first step toward being a satisfied property owner. Once you can call a place your own, you have the chance to make renovations, additions and decorative choices that will make it the home of your dreams.

According to a survey released by the Remodeling Futures Program at the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University on April 18, the amount of money that homeowners spend on improvement projects is expected to increase as 2013 progresses, following an impressive 10 percent growth in 2012.

In the beginning of March, we reported on the National Association of Home Builders' (NAHB) study, "What Home Buyers Want," which revealed that 93 percent of people hoping to purchase a property want a house with adequate laundry room storage. If you're already settled into a home in which this is lacking, there's no reason you can't invest in an improvement project to change that. It could be something as big as renovating your basement to serve as a laundry room or as small as buying home organization solutions for an existing space.

Not only can this benefit you in the short-term, but it will make your house more desirable when you're ready to sell.

"What we have generally found is that certain improvements add to the value of any home," Zillow Digs communication manager Cynthia Nowak told HousingWire.

At Bazaar Home Decorating, we offer custom home organization solutions that can help you transform a closet, garage, home office, mud room, pantry or laundry room into a place of convenience and style that maximizes space and fits the overall vibe of your house.
