How to apply top Emmy’s fashion to your home

Last night Hollywood stars stepped out in style to celebrate the 2013 Emmy Awards. In addition to a few surprising wins, viewers were also treated to some major fashion statements.

“We saw some trends, such as sheer, the street-chic look and emerald green that we predicted from Seventh Avenue. But then we saw some new things emerge — there was a sea of blue, which was very unexpected,” stylist David Zyla tells CBS.com.

Check out two of the top trends of the night and find out how to apply these styles to your home décor:

Blue: As we learned a few weeks ago, blue is a hot color, with Pantone naming “dazzling blue” the top color for spring 2014. Actresses proved right on trend with this popular shade. Funny woman Tina Fey rocked a curve-hugging cobalt blue Narcisco Rodriguez number. “Girls” actress Alison Williams also stole the fashion show in a strapless royal blue dress by Ralph Lauren. This color is easy to pull off in the home sector. Try adding royal blue curtains to your bedroom to create a bold, yet serene look.

Neutral tones: Many actresses opted for paler tones this year, showcasing the power of minimalism. Kerry Washington, People StyleWatch’s best dressed star for 2013, chose a pale Marchesa gown with gold embellishments. January Jones, Cobie Smulders, and Claire Danes also selected neutral and blush hues. What’s great about using pale tones inside the home is that you can make this look come alive with deeper accents, from curtains to throw-pillows.
