How to decorate for March Madness

March is associated with three events: St. Patrick's Day, the beginning of spring and of course college basketball. Even if you're not the biggest basketball fan, March Madness is a fun excuse to throw a party and even make a few extra bucks by winning your bracket. If you're planning on celebrating the occasion this year, take a look at some festive decorating tips:

  • Dress down: Although you're used to dressing up for parties, wearing comfortable sports attire fits this occasion. "March Madness is the quintessential trash-talking event. Even if you don't know anything about college basketball, it's still fun to slip on a jersey and get in on the banter," writes Jeremy Piccirillo on lifestyle website She Knows. "Ask your guests to wear their favorite team jersey or game-day bib to the party to complete the overall ambiance of the event — not to mention it's a great conversation starter."
  • Offer snacks: Much like the Super Bowl, March Madness wouldn't be complete without an array of tasty snacks. Offer traditional chicken wings, mozzarella sticks and other finger-foods for appetizers. To stay on theme, make cupcakes for desserts and decorate them with orange and black frosting to look like a basketball.
  • Pick a team: Is your alma mater in the tournament? If so, now is a great time to show off your school spirit with home design. Choose custom curtains and drapes to match your team's colors and embellish your walls with banners depicting your school's mascot.
