Interior design rules for a stylish home

It's time to start following through with your interior design resolutions! Finding the right home decor can be a challenge if you don't know what to look for, so sometimes it's best to ask for professional help.

Recently, Sophie Robinson of British TV show "The Great Interior Designer Challenge" shared some of her top decorating rules with Mirror.co. Take a look at her helpful pointers to transform your home from drab to fab:

  • Get trendy with accent walls: Chic accent walls are here to stay. Try painting only one wall in your room a bright color to truly make it pop!
  • Never underestimate the power of window fashions: "A window is to a view what a frame is to a painting," writes Robinson. "Therefore don't overlook the way you are going to dress them. Dusty Venetian blinds and too-short-curtains are not the way to go. I love combining curtains and blinds in coordinating fabrics for the ultimate well dressed look. Go for long curtains for a more elegant look."
  • Say goodbye to beige: At one time, beige was the go-to neutral shade for home owners and interior designers, however today we are getting more creative. Beige has become a bit "blah," prompting designers to choose gray instead. Just make sure that you add lots of warmth into your gray palette so that it looks more inviting than a cloudy day.
