Spruce up your windows this holiday season

Although yesterday we gave you tips on how to get your entire home ready for the holidays, today we'll give special attention to your windows. Homeowners tend to overlook the importance of their windows in terms of overall design scheme. The truth is that decorating your windows, whether they are grand or small, can make your home feel more put together. If you want to give your windows extra TLC around the holidays, check out these helpful tips from Better Homes & Gardens:

  • Beads: "Add pretty holiday swag to your window treatments using large beaded garland," states BH&G. "Drape a couple of garland strings over the curtain rod, securing them with tape on the back of the rod. For a finishing touch, wire elegant glass balls to the garland ends and top the balls with greenery."
  • Greenery: Don't you just love the smell of evergreen? Even if you opt for an artificial tree, you can still bring fresh-cut greenery into your home. For instance, try draping fresh garland atop your windows. Not only will this décor look great, it is also quite fragrant!
  • Ribbon: Ribbons aren't just for wrapping presents. Try using colorful ribbons to enhance a window. Use various length ribbons for a dramatic effect and mix and match colors, patterns and materials for a festive ambiance. You can even fasten small wreaths of ornaments to the ribbon.
