Survey: 93 percent of prospective home buyers want a laundry room

A few weeks ago, the National Association of Home Buyers (NAHB) announced the release of its most recent study, "What Home Buyers Want," which outlines people's preferences for different features in a house, including size, room layout, design, energy efficiency and more. One particularly interesting part of the survey revealed that 93 percent of prospective buyers want a home with adequate laundry room storage, with 57 percent of respondents saying they would be unlikely to purchase a property without this kind of space.

"Presenting the idea of a room prepared to maximize efficiency is appealing. Laundry rooms are no longer strictly utility. They are dressed up and cheerful," Jenna Thuening, owner of Minneapolis, Minnesota, real estate agency Home Destination, said in a press release. "A little effort for what a homeowner gains to become more organized is time well spent. Laundry rooms are taking on more of their own character with today's demands for efficiency."

According to Home Destination, you can do the following to improve this part of your house:

Decorate it – By painting it a fun color or hanging some artwork on the walls, you can make a laundry room feel more welcoming overall.

Install counter space – A flat surface for sorting, folding and stacking your clothes can make a world of a difference.

Purchase bins and baskets – These help eliminate clutter and ensure that everything is in the right place.
