Your December home checklist

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Now that it's already December, it's time to get your home in shape for the holidays. A short holiday season means there's less time to buy presents and decorate your house. However, if you follow these helpful home tips you can ensure that your holiday season is happy, healthy and stress free.

  • Clear your walkways: "Be prepared by stocking up on snow shovels and ice melt, and store your tools where you can easily get to them during a storm," reported Houzz.com contributor Laura Gaskill. "Just be aware that certain ice melting products can be harmful to pets and plants — read the labels carefully before buying, and try to keep products off of your lawn and garden beds."
  • Ensure that home security is up to date: If you'll be traveling this holiday season, be sure that your home security systems are working properly. Even if you're just running to the local supermarket to pick up baking supplies, it is important that your windows and doors are locked. Additionally, be sure to keep the area around your house well-lit.
  • Layer: Just as you add layers to your wardrobe during the winter season, it is also important to add layers to your home décor. For instance, incorporate throw blankets in your living room. Also, think about switching your sheer curtains to a heavier fabric more appropriate for the winter. At Bazaar Home Decorating Center, we have a stylish array of fabrics to choose from.
